Yes. www.download.com and cnet are safe. I have used for years without any problems. All downloads from there that I know of, are virus and spyware free.

To check the validity of a site, use McAfee Site Advisor as this is what they do. Simply go to http://www.siteadvisor.com/ and enter the Web address. It is also available as an add-on for Internet Explorer or FireFox and it's free.
I have used cnet's download.com since about 2000. They are fairly trustworthy. If you are worried about what you are downloading (and you should be, from any site) always use an antivirus against that file. Make sure you have uptodate definitions.
