well avast would do a good job of preventing virus. But Norton would give you better results however norton is very resource intensive (except Norton 360)

But if you dont have money like me (college student) avast is a good choice. Use it in conjunction with McAffee Site Adviser and a good spyware remover (Spybot search and destroy/Ad-Aware free version/spyware terminator) and a decent firewall (comodo firewall pro)
my browser was highjacked by trojans, i payed 拢29 for norton, it scanned my pc and said no threats detected
