yes you can get viruses by downloading music, but its only if the file is not actualy a music file. look for files that say something like

bandname - songtitle.mp3.exe

bandname - songtitle.mpg .vbs

etc

its not only .exe and vbs, there are others, if its ''.mp3.(anything) dont download it.

For music, just make sure its either mp3, wma, ogg, wav, there are others but those are the common files that are ok.

also if the file is small (under 1 mb) then be weary of it. usualy a 4 minute song will be around 3-5 mb, if the file is only a couple KB then dont download it

It's very uncommon to find mp3's that will carry a virus unless your using a website thats not trusted, or a program thats not trusted (don't use limewire, bearshare or kazaa, their trial accounts have spyware) use a program like soulseek (www.slsknet.org)

Depends on where ur downloading from and on your anti virus software being up to date!
