they are in it for kicks. they think its funny, if you know who created a virus you can report them to the police and they will get arrested

They do it because they can..just to mess the up the www.
They do this to test flaws in a software/network or platforms.
Some people have a need to get attention. If they can screw things up for other people, they feel more powerful that way. It stems from a feeling of insignificance.
it is just what happens when a malicious person has a flair for programming.
Some had hidden agenda and others simply wants to test their ability and to have some fun.
They're vandals, of the same ilk as people who spray paint their names on bridges.
