How long can cold viruses for the common cold live on surfaces?

I get concerned about sitting on couches and touching surfaces after someone visits and has been coughing and sneezing from a cold?

5-6 hours

But it's hard to get a cold just by touching a contaminated surface. Your skin protects you. It's when you touch the surface and then touch your nose or eyes without washing your hands first that is the problem.

Of course, there are also airborne droplets from coughs and sneezes to worry about, too.

If you are concerned about getting sick I would tell your sick friends and relatives to stay home until they are better. Or stock up on Lysol. :-)
