Why do people create computer viruses?

I just don't understand why people would do something so malicious!

If people did not create viruses, then antivirus companies would just get broke and fail....it's a circle...

same reason serial killers kill, they get a kick out of harming others
There are a number of reasons for this. Conspiracy theorists will tell you that the folks who create the anti-virus software make a lot of the virii to keep their business jumping.

A lot of the viruses come from loosely organized computer groups who are doing it as a strange sort of competition to see who can create the best virus. Who can infect the most systems before it gets discovered.

Most people who would take part in creating a virus are considerably anti-social. I always picture little dweeb teenagers who got picked on too much and this is their anonymous safe way to strike back at the world.

Better to write a virus than pick up a Glock I guess. :)
To annoy the hell out of people usually. Sometimes they are used to destroy evidence of crime...a constructive use.
Because they can. I think it really is that..they can and it gets to be something so big..they get their kicks from it
Because they're the same people that sell you the cure (Anti-Virus programs.)

A basic rule of medicine.

People who don't believe this, are very, very naive.
Some for just fun and some for commercial purposes like.

Some create virus for fun and some create virus for their antivirus companiesto run if virus was not there there were no antivirus at all.
The anti-virus companies, then they issue a free anti-virus programme and you become the tester, and as for avg ------------------------------.
