Why must you scan for viruses...?

...before and after extracting the files from a compressed archive?

Why must you scan for viruses...?antivirus

any files that have been downloaded from the internet can be infected with a virus, not just e-mails.

If you go to a web site and decide to download a program, save to my documents, then scan before opening with both virus %26 spyware programs, if nothing found then go ahead and open. if a virus is found then delete at once.

Its a good practice to scan computer first thing in the morning and last thing at night before shuting down.

A person should use a good virus program %26 2 good spyware program but only run 1 at a time, each will find something the other didn't.

(spybot search %26 destroy %26 superantispyware)

(AVG or Avast) all these are free at www.snapfiles.com under the freeware section

You should set your scans to run when you're gonna be away from the computer for awhile because it takes so much of your resources that you can't really use it for anything else.

As for before/after..... do you mean a restore point? Virus checkers can't get into restore points, so after you run a full scan, you should turn off System Restore to dump all restore points, then turn it back on to create a new clean point
